The course

Delivery management is about more than plans and frameworks. It’s about bringing people together, creating the right conditions for work to happen, and making good decisions in uncertain environments.

This course focuses on the Developing stage of delivery capability. You’ll build awareness, confidence, and practical skills across the core areas of delivery from working with teams and stakeholders, to shaping delivery approaches, spotting risks, and reflecting on your own practice.

You’ll leave with a clearer understanding of:

  • What good delivery looks like in practice

  • How your role supports people, teams, and outcomes

  • Where to focus your attention day-to-day as a delivery manager

What you’ll learn

Across the two sessions, you’ll learn how to:

  • Build and support teams

    • Understand why the right mix of skills, experience, and working styles matters

    • Recognise how individual personalities and needs affect team performance

    • Support people effectively and know when to move from support to active management

  • Manage people and relationships

    • Notice how people are doing and check in at the right time

    • Navigate common people challenges in delivery

    • Begin building trust-based relationships with stakeholders by listening, asking questions, and being reliable

  • Shape delivery in context

    • Understand common delivery approaches such as iterative, waterfall, and hybrid

    • Learn how to choose and adapt an approach based on context, teams, and goals

    • Organise and prioritise work so teams can focus on what matters most

  • Facilitate collaboration and decision-making

    • Understand the role of facilitation in delivery

    • Plan and run simple workshops or group sessions

    • Help teams make progress, decisions, and trade-offs

  • Understand organisations and constraints

    • Learn how organisations are structured and how decisions are made

    • Understand basic commercial concepts, including budgets, roles, scope, and contracts

    • Recognise how commercial and organisational pressures affect delivery

  • Spot risks and make decisions

    • Understand the difference between risks and issues

    • Identify early signs of trouble and take proportionate action

    • Make informed decisions within your role and know when to ask for help or escalate

  • Communicate, reflect, and improve

    • Communicate clearly and adapt your style for different audiences

    • Reflect on lessons learned and use feedback to improve your practice

    • Begin developing your own calm, thoughtful delivery style
